On March 14, the Power Speakers held their club International Speech and Evaluation Contest. Starting off the evening with our Evaluation Contest, we were engaged by our test speaker, Karol, who educated us on the benefits of whole grains. Evaluation Contest participants Lorraine and Kim, had 5 minutes to reflect on Karol’s speech before delivering their evaluation to the audience. Both contestants pulled through with helpful evaluations, coming up with points Karol did well and highlighting some areas where she could improve. Following the tallying of judges scores, Lorraine was announced the winner of the Evaluation contest! Congratulations Lorraine!! Following a short break with some delicious pastries, we got back into the second half which was the International Speech Contest. The International Speech Contest requires contestants to come up with a 5 to 7 minute speech to present to the judges and audience. All three contestants- Katrina, Jon, and Josh, had riveting speeches with enlightening take-home messages. Following the 3 speeches and the collection of judge’s ballots, it was announced that Jon would take home 2nd place, while Katrina won the contest! Congratulations Katrina and Jon!!
Both winners from our club contest will move on to the Area Contest on Saturday, March 31. OEM (13315-156 Street) will be hosting the Area Contest which begins at 9:30 am. Best of luck to our club representatives at the next level of competition. Come out and cheer them on! Congratulations to our VP Education, Michelle for running a successful contest and being Toastmaster! Special thanks to our Area Governor Liz for making her club visit and cheering on contestants. And finally, the contest wouldn’t have been a contest without our contestants, judges, test speaker, timers and ballot counters, so thank you all! Blog and photos by Colleen P.
