Answers to our most frequently asked questions.
What happens at a typical Power Speakers meeting?
* The meeting described below has been altered for online meetings during the pandemic. The meetings are approximately one hour in length and do not include a break. To accommodate the shortened time, there will usually be either a prepared speaker or an educational, but not both. If there is no educational or prepared speaker, the table topics session is extended. Evaluations follow the table topics session. *
Power Speakers meetings are 2 hours in length.
The meeting starts with introductions and an educational session for approximately 15-20 minutes. This presentation is usually done by a Club Officer or senior member of the club. The topics can range from speaking tips to information on creating a better club. Occasionally, we will have a formal business session during this time to deal with club matters.
The next 40-45 minutes, we have a series of prepared speakers, usually 1-3 people who are working on their Toastmasters manual.
After a 10-15 minute break, we move into the 2nd half of the meeting. Members from the club will evaluate the speeches based on the manual objectives for the speech being delivered. Table Topic Questions follow the evaluations. Table Topics are impromptu questions encouraging people to think on their feet. By the end of the evening, our goal is to have given everyone the chance to speak at least one time. We wrap up by evaluating the meeting.
