0.05% blood alcohol content wins at our Debate Night.

On February 8, 2012 we held a Power Speakers debate night. The topic to be debated was whether the province of Alberta should lower the legal limit of blood alcohol content from 0.08% to 0.05%. The two teams did an amazing job at presenting both sides - Steve and Jon presented a case that supported the lowering of blood alcohol content while Cathy and Joshua opposed. The issues brought up were probably similar to the ones discussed recently in our provincial legislature. Teams discussed current technology, the repercussions of drunk driving, societal, healthcare and court costs, and touched both on the scientific and emotional sides. Although both sides presented strong positions and refutations, Jon and Steve proved to be the strongest and won the debate. Congratulations to both teams for volunteering and doing a fantastic job at taking on this politically hot topic! A huge thank you to those who helped to bring the evening together including our Chairman Kristen, debate participants, audience judges, and our Toastmaster Katrina.
